Node Monitoring – Basics and Usage

1. Introduction

What is node monitoring?

Node monitoring is the continuous process of observing the health, performance, and availability of a blockchain node. In decentralized networks such as Redbelly, each node plays a critical role in maintaining consensus, validating transactions, and ensuring the overall stability of the system. Because nodes operate 24/7, even short interruptions or performance drops can affect rewards, uptime, and network reliability. Effective monitoring allows operators to detect issues early, react quickly, and maintain a consistently high-quality service.

What is Bellydash?

Bellydash is an automated monitoring platform designed specifically for node operators in the Redbelly Network. Every 15 seconds, the system collects key operational metrics from your node such as uptime, synchronization status, block production, and resource usage and stores them in a dedicated database. This continuous data flow enables real‑time visibility into your node's condition, as well as long‑term analysis of trends and performance patterns.

Why use it?

Bellydash provides several critical benefits for node operators:

  • Stability – Early detection of anomalies (e.g., desync, downtime, stalled processes) helps prevent long-term issues and ensures consistent node performance.

  • Security – The system immediately notifies you about failures or suspicious behavior, reducing the risk of prolonged outages or unnoticed incidents.

  • Fast response – Instant Telegram alerts allow you to react within seconds, even when you're away from your workstation.

  • History & insights – Access to detailed charts, logs, and statistics from recent days and weeks helps you understand trends, diagnose recurring issues, and optimize your setup.

  • Automation – Weekly summary reports give you a clear overview of your node's operation, including uptime, incidents, and performance metrics without requiring manual checks.
